Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
Musical-comedy specialist Green has produced another winner in this survey of hit Broadway musicals from 1866's The Black Crook to 1985's Big River. Although not as complete as Gerald Bordman's American Musical Theatre ( LJ 10/1/78), the volume includes basic facts about more than 300 important shows, a brief synopsis of each, credits, and gossipy facts (such as tryout replacements) so dear to the hearts of Broadway fans. Accompanying photographs are excellent, as are the several indexes. Either for serious research or just browsing, Green's book should appeal to anyone interested in musical theater. Highly recommended for most libraries. Eric W. Johnson, Univ. of Bridgeport Lib., Ct.

Broadway Musicals - Show by Show - 6th edition
Broadway Musicals Show by Show: Sixth EditionExcellent book, containing very interesting facts and figures, reviews, casts, runs,& theatres played. This edition includes upto Young Frankstein. Very handy for revealing obscure facts about the shows. It has (and still is) very helpful in my selection of shows to add to my Musicals CD collection.
Warning - misleading review
This is a great book, have hung on to purchase the updated 6th edition. However, according to the editorial review it has info on The Boy from Oz in it, very disappointed to find it doesn't.
Most used text book out of 6 years of College
Let me begin this review by stating, that of all of the text books I have had after a six year stint in college, I have used this book the most. I have used this book to not only research shows for synopsis', but I've helped a local high school pick their yearly musical from this show for the past three years. I am sad that it only goes up the 1996 year, and have been awaiting a new version for a while now. But if you need a time frame, this book helps with giving you the year, directors, original cast, and a brief synopsis of the show itself. This helpful for any music director/show director, I highly recommend this book for anyone persuing musical theatre history.
